A

Tae kwon do is the Korean martial(军事的)art of hand-to-hand combat(战斗). Maybe that should really be body-to-body combat because in tae kwon do the whole body must be trained to properly defend and attack. There are some similarities between tae kwon do and other martial arts.
For example, tae kwon do uses quick straight-line moves which can also be found in Japanese martial arts, but tae kwon do also uses flowing circular moves like the type of moves found in Chinese martial arts. The main difference between tae kwon do and other martial arts is the powerful kicking technique which tae kwon do uses. This is where the name tae kwon do comes from.In Korean, tae means"to kick",kwon means"to strike with the hand",and do means"art".Therefore, tae kwon do can be translated as"the art of kicking and punching".
Paintings found on the walls and ceilings of ancient Korean tombs in-dicate that tae kwon do,or something similar to it,has been practiced in Korea since about 50 B.C.Also, records of a specially trained group of young warriors called Hwarang explain how these young men were taught taek kyon(an early form of tae kwon do)along with history, philosophy, ethics, archery, riding, and sword fighting.Members of the Hwarang were also encouraged to travel throughout Korea in order to learn about the people who lived in all regions of the country. This helped spread the practice of taek kyon throughout Korea.Eventually taek kyon, which was practiced for exercise and sport was replaced by subak, another martial art .The purpose of subak was specifically fighting,so members of the military were required to learn it.However, people's interest in subak died out over time.By the 1800s,few Koreans actually practiced subak. After Korea was invaded in 1909,authorities put an end to the practice of all martial arts in the country. In the long run, this ban actually led to increased interest in martial arts, and secret groups began to practice subak again in the Buddhist temples hidden high in the mountains in Korea. After Korea gained its independence again in 1948,interest in many forms of martial arts grew around the country. The Korean Tae Kwon Do Association was formed in 1961,and this was followed by the World Tae Kwon Do Federation in 1973.
Today, tae kwon do enjoys great popularity around the world.More than 20 million people practice tae kwon do in more than 120 countries. Tae kwon do was also made an official demonstration sport in the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul,Korea.

In cities with rent control, the city government sets the maximum rent that a landlord can charge for an apartment. Supporters of rent control argue that it protects people who are living in apartments. Their rent cannot increase; therefore, they are not in danger of losing their homes. However, the critics say that after a long time, rent control may have negative effects. Landlords know that they cannot increase their profits. Therefore, they invest in other businesses where they can increase their profits. They do not invest in new buildings which would also be rent –controlled. As a result, new apartments are not built. Many people who need apartments cannot find any. According to the critics, the end result of rent control is a shortage of apartments in the city.

Some theorists argue that the minimum wage law can cause problems in the same way. The federal government sets the minimum that an employer must pay workers. The minimum helps people who generally look for unskilled, low – paying jobs. However, if the minimum is high, employers may hire fewer workers. They will replace workers with machinery. The price, which is the wage that employers must pay, increases. Therefore, other things being equal, the number of workers that employers want decreases. Thus, critics claim, an increase in the minimum wage may cause unemployment. Some poor people may find themselves without jobs instead of with jobs at the minimum wage.

Supporters of the minimum wage say that it helps people keep their dignity. Because of the law, workers cannot sell their services for less than the minimum. Furthermore, employers cannot force workers to accept jobs at unfair wages.

Economic theory predicts the results of economic decisions such as decisions about farm production, rent control, and the minimum wage. The predictions may be correct only if “other things are equal”. Economists do not agree on some of the predictions. They also do not agree on the value of different decisions. Some economists support a particular decision while others criticize it. Economists do agree, however, that there are no simple answers to economic questions.

51.There is the possibility that setting maximum rent may ____________.

A. cause a shortage of apartments

B. worry those who rent apartments as homes

C. increase the profits of landlords

D. encourage landlords to invest in building apartment

52. According to the critics, rent control _______________.

A. will always benefit those who rent apartments

B. is unnecessary

C. will bring negative effects in the long run

D. is necessary under all circumstances

53. The problem of unemployment will arise ____________.

A. if the minimum wage is set too high

B. if the minimum wage is set too low

C. if the workers are unskilled

D. if the maximum wage is set

54. The passage tells us ____________.

A. the relationship between supply and demand

B. the possible results of government controls

C. the necessity of government control

D. the urgency of getting rid of government controls

55. Which of the following statements is NOT true?

1 要求用5句话表达上述内容;

Nowadays many parents decide to leave their work in order to keep their children company in schools when they reach Senior Grade Three. There are positive effects as well as negative effects over the issue.

The advantage is obvious. ____________________________________________________

______________________________________________________________________________

______________________________________________________________________________

I hope we students should not only learn the book knowledge, but also learn to live independently.

Color “colors” our lives. We value color so much that we have tried to make our lives more colorful by coloring our clothes, our homes and even our faces. Today, we have come to realize that color can not only reflect one’s personality but also our emotions, our actions and how we respond to various people, things and ideas. Much has been studied and written about color and its impact on our daily lives. What color do you like? Yellow, orange or red? If you do you must be an optimist, a leader, an active person who enjoys life, people and excitement. Do you prefer grey or blue? Then, you are probably quiet, shy, and you would rather follow than lead. You end to be a pessimist. At least, this is what psychologists tell us --- the meaning of color preference and the effects colors have on human beings. They tell us we don’t choose our favorite colors as we grow up. We are born with our preference. If you happen to love brown, you did so as soon as you opened your eyes. Colors do influence our mood, without a doubt. For example, black is depressing while light and bright colors make people not only happier but more active. It is established that factory workers work better, harder, and have fewer accidents when their machine are painted orange rather than black or grey.

1. 以约30个词概括短文的要点;

Possible version:

Nowadays many parents decide to leave their work in order to keep their children company in schools when they reach Senior Grade Three. There are positive effects as well as negative effects over the issue.

The advantage is obvious. With parents preparing delicious food and helping doing all the washing, children can eat properly and have more time to study and enjoy themselves.

However, it costs more money and gives students more pressure because they have to be thinking from time to time how they can reward their parents. On the other hand, it may change the way the students spend their time. If a student is always under the protection of his parents, he can’t develop his own ability to live independently, nor will he be able to deal with his daily life properly. They might meet with trouble when getting along with his fellow students in the days to come, which may affect his work or even his life in the future.

I think we students should not only learn the book knowledge, but also learn to live independently.

Possible Version:

Colors and Our Lives

According to the passage, colors play an important role in our life. They reflect our personality and emotions and different colors have different influences on human beings.

Among all the colors, I like green and white best because green is the color of nature, health, and life while white symbolizes purity, cleanliness, and kindness.

In our daily life, we can see that colors are used in every field. During the Olympic Games, every athlete wears his team clothes whose colors are similar to his country. That is what colors bring to us --- the symbol of our nation. When seeing the red color on our Chinese Olympic team clothes, we will think of our national flag, our motherland and our identity. The 1.3 billion people in our country are then connected together by the red color.

Due to their effects, colors can also influence our study. To arouse our spirits, we can use some bright and light colors on some things that we will see, such as memos on the desks, note books and book covers. Moreover, we can use labels of different colors to sort out reference materials of different subjects. And we can keep a small green plant on our desk to help relax our eyes and minds.
