The so-called‘non-intelligence factors’include    36     feelings, will, motivation, interests and habits. After a 30-year follow-up study of 8000 males, American psychologists (心理学家)   37     that the main cause of disparities(不同) in intelligence is not intelligence     38   , but non-intelligence factors including the desire to learn, will power and self-confidence.     39    people all know that one should have definite objectives , a strong will and good learning habits, quite a number of teachers and parents don’t pay much attention to     40    these factors. Some parents are greatly worried    41     their children fail to do well in their studies. They blame either genetic factors, malnutrition(营养不良), or laziness, but they never take     42    consideration these non-intelligence factors .At the same time, some teachers don’t inquire into these, such as reasons    43     students do poorly. They simply give them more courses and exercises, or     44    criticize or laugh at them. After all, these students lose self-confidence.Some of them just feel defeated and     45    themselves up as hopeless.Others may go astray(迷途)because they are sick of learning. 46     investigation of more than 1,000 middle school students in Shanghai showed that 46.5 per cent of them were   47      of learning, because of examinations.36.4 per cent lacked persistence, initiative (主动)and consciousness (知觉)and 10.3 per cent were sick of learning. It is clear    48     the lack of cultivation (培养) of non-intelligence factors has been a main     49    to intelligence development in teenagers. It even causes an imbalance between physiological (生理的)and    50     development among a few students. If we don’t start now to   51      the cultivation of non-intelligence factors , it will not only affect the development of the   52      of teenagers , but also affect the quality of a whole generation .Some experts have put forward    53     about how to cultivate students’ non-intelligence factors. First, parents and teachers should    54     understand teenage psychology. On this basis, they can help them to pursue the objectives of learning,     55   their interests and toughening their willpower. 36.A.one’s                     B.their                       C.his                         D.her 37.A.came out                B.found out               C.made out                D.worked out 38.A.in itself                  B.by itself                  C.itself                      D.on its own 39.A.Though                  B.Nevertheless            C.However                D.Moreover 40.A.believing                B.studying                 C.cultivating              D.developing 41.A.about                     B.when                     C.how                             D.whether 42.A.for                        B.in                          C.into                        D.over 43.A.why                             B.that                        C.when                     D.how 44.A.ever                       B.even                     C.still                        D.more 45.A.put                        B.get                         C.handle                    D.give 46.A.The                       B.An                          C.Another                  D.A 47.A.afraid                     B.ahead                     C.aware                    D.ashamed 48.A.that                       B.how                    C.why                       D.which 49.A.difficulty                B.question                 C.threat                     D.obstacle 50.A.intelligent               B.characteristic          C.psychological        D.physical 51.A.practice                 B.threat                     C.strengthen              D.urge 52.A.intelligence             B.diligence                 C.maturity(成熟)    D.performance 53.A.projects                 B.warnings                C.suggestions            D.decision 54.A.fully                      B.greatly                   C.very                             D.highly 55.A.insuring                 B.going                     C.encouraging           D.exciting 第三部分:阅读理解(共20小题,每小题2分,满分40分)

A Jan.7, 2008 — French President Nicolas Sarkozy would marry his girl friend, former supermodel Carla Bruni on Feb.8 or 9, media reported Monday. The report said that in December — less than a month after Sarkozy met Bruni — he gave her a heart-shaped diamond engagement ring. Carla Bruni, Italian singer, former model and girlfriend of France’s President Nicolas Sarkozy, holds the hand of her son Aurelien while wearing a pink heart-shaped ring during a visit to the ancient Jordanian ruins of Petra Jan.5, 2008.French newspapers reported that Sarkozy would marry her early in February. Sarkozy and his wife of 11 years, Cecilia, divorced(离婚) in October.Their marital(婚姻) problems became well known in May 2005 when she appeared in public at the side of event organizer Richard Attias. A marriage to Bruni, a one-time star of the catwalks who is now a singer, would be Sarkozy’s third: He divorced his first wife, Marie, in the late 80s — after he had met and befriended Cecilia. Political analyst Dominique Moisi said that a Sarkozy proposal to Bruni could be part of his desire to head off any future arguments, and the speed of their visit to the ancient Jordanian ruins of Petra Jan.5, 2008 would fit with his personality as a busy man in a hurry. “Apparently, he’s going to marry her, so the problem will be behind him,” Moisi said.“He will increase the opportunities to travel with her, and to say to the French, ‘You see, I must remarry ...You need a first lady.’ ” Bruni, an Italian-born French citizen, has dated famous men including Mick Jagger and Donald Trump. She has also reportedly been linked to singer Eric Clapton and actor Vincent Perez. 56.Sarkozy’s second marriage was held _____.        A.in 1996                                                     B.in May 2005        C.once he divorced Marie                             D.11 years later than the first 57.What is the correct order of Sarkozy’s marital history?      a.Long marriage to Cecilia.        b.Visiting ruins with Bruni        c.Getting divorced from Marie        d.Giving Bruni a diamond ring        e.To marry the former supermodel      A.c-a-b-d-e                B.e-d-c-a-b                C.c-a-d-b-e                D.a-c-d-b-e 58.The possible purpose of the last paragraph is _____.        A.to provide some unknown stories about Bruni’s love affairs      B.to show uncertainty about the former supermodel’s loyalty      C.to imply that past experiences have little effect on a person      D.to prove Bruni one of the most popular and attractive females 59.Which would be the best title for the news?        A.Bruni, France’s first lady        B.A third marriage to fail        C.France to have first lady        D.President’s new girl friend

B I’ve written 14 movies. My characters smoke in many of them, and they look cool and glamorous(有魅力的) doing it.Smoking was an integral(必需的) part of many of my screenplays because I was a heavy smoker. It was part of a bad-boy image I’d cultivated for a long time— smoking, drinking, partying, rock ’n’ roll. Smoking, I once believed, was every person’s right. The second-hand smoke was non-existent problem invented by professional do-gooders.I put all these views into my plays.        Remembering all this, I find it hard to forgive myself.I have been an accomplice (帮凶) to the murders of untold numbers of human beings.I am admitting this only because I have made a deal with God.Spare me, I said, and I will try to stop others from committing the same crimes I did. Eighteen months ago I was diagnosed with throat cancer, the result of a lifetime of smoking.I am alive but disabled.Much of my larynx (喉) is gone.I have some difficulty speaking; others have some difficulty understanding me. I haven’t smoked or drunk for 18 months now, though I still take it day by day and pray for help.I believe in prayer and exercise.I have walked five miles a day for a year, without missing even one day.Quitting smoking and drinking has taught me the hardest lesson I’ve ever learned about my own weakness; it has also given me the greatest affection and empathy(同感) for those still addicted. I don’t think smoking is every person’s right anymore.I think smoking should be as illegal as heroin(海洛因).I’m no longer such a bad boy.I go to church on Sunday.I’m desperate to see my four boys grow up.I want to do everything I can to undo the damage I have done with my own big-screen words and images. Screen writers know, too, that some movie stars are more likely to play a part if they can smoke —because they are so addicted to smoking that they have difficulty stopping even during the shooting of a scene. My hands are bloody; so are Hollywood’s.My cancer has caused me to attempt to cleanse(彻底清洁) me.I don’t wish my fate upon anyone in Hollywood, but I beg that Hollywood should stop putting it upon millions of others. 60.The main idea of this passage probably is _________. A.the writer is ashamed of the bad effects his screenplays have had on human beings B.the writer’s smoking experience nearly killed himself C.the bad effects that Hollywood screenplay have brought to children D.the determination of the writer to overcome his illness 61.How do you think the writer has realized his mistake? A.So many people have found the habit of smoking due to his plays. B.His plays have brought great harm to teenagers. C.He himself suffered greatly from smoking. D.His screenplays have been doing more and more harm to human beings. 62.What is the writer determined to do in future? A.He has made up his mind to give up smoking forever. B.He will try his best to prevent others from writing screen plays encouraging smoking. C.He will try his best to bring up his four children. D.He has decided to write his screenplays without smoking scenes. 63.It can be inferred from the passage that _______.        A.the writer will soon be recovered from his illness thanks to his exercise        B.the writer will soon die because of his deadly disease        C.smoking will be got rid of in all Hollywood films       D.smoking in Hollywood films is still doing great harm to human beings

C Jim Madison was walking through the American Cemetery(公墓) at Normandy one day in 2001 when his eyes fell on a grave marker that caught him by surprise, “Elizabeth A.Richardson, American Red Cross, Indiana July 25, 1945”.The chance discovery led to his new book-- An American Woman in World War Two, which tells about the war through the eyes of Richardson. Richardson joined the Red Cross in 1944 and worked on a Clubmobile-- a converted bus from which she and other women served coffee and chatted to American soldiers scattered across England and France.More important than the food, they were a reminder of home for lonely and miserable soldiers. She died at 27 in a crash of a two-seater L-5 Sentinel aircraft. She was one of four women buried at the American Cemetery at Normandy.  Madison said the present understanding of World War Two just focused on the experiences of male soldiers, but women were also important to the war effort and brought their own views to the conflict.“The point I try to make in the book is how close Richardson came to understanding war,” he said.“She saw the effects of it, and she grieved(感到悲痛).” When Madison returned from Normandy in 2001, he managed to contact Richardson’s younger brother, Charles Richardson Jr.It was her family’s keeping of her letters and diaries that made possible the book, which quoted from them extensively.     Madison believes America’s fascination with World War Two will outlive those who fought it and the generations that follow them.Since the late 1980s, he has taught undergraduate courses on the war at Indiana University, and he said students obviously warm up to the subject. He said he sometimes talked to World War Two soldiers who “have a sense that young people don’t know and they don’t care”.“I tell them it’s the opposite”, he said. 64.How did Jim Madison get the idea of writing a book about World War Two? A.His friends suggested it. B.He got it quite by accident C.It was requested by Richardson’s brother. D.It was arranged by his university. 65.The passage suggests that women working in the Red Cross, like Richardson,      A.provided warmth and encouragement to soldiers B.were braver than male soldiers C.didn’t experience much suffering during the war D.had a good understanding of the cruelty of the war 66.What made Madison’s new book special? A.That it was based on a real life story and focused on the cruelty of war. B.That it talked about war from a woman’s point of view. C.That it quoted a lot from Richardson’s letters and diaries. D.That it reminded people of those who contributed in World War Two. 67.According to Madison, today’s American youth       . A.know a lot about World War Two B.don’t respect World War Two soldiers C.are eager to learn about World War Two D.are more interested in learning about male soldiers

D Language learning begins with listening.Children are greatly different in the amount of listening they do before they start speaking, and later starters are often long listeners. Most children will “obey” spoken instructions some time before they can speak, though the word “obey” is hardly accurate as a description of the eager and delighted cooperation usually shown by the child. Before they can speak, many children will also ask questions by gesture and by making questioning noises.Any attempt to study the development from the noises babies make to their first spoken words leads to considerable difficulties. It is agreed that they enjoy making noises, and that during the first few months one or two noises sort themselves as particularly expressive as delight, pain, friendliness, and so on.But since these can’t be said to show the baby’s intention to communicate, they can hardly be regarded as early forms of language. It is agreed, too, that from about three months they play with sounds for enjoyment, and that by six months they are able to add new words to their store. This self-imitation leads on to deliberate(有意的)imitation of sounds made or words spoken to them by other people. The problem then arises as to the point at which one can say that these imitations can be considered as speech. It is a problem we need to get out.The meaning of a word depends on what a particular person means by it in a particular situation and it is clear that what a child means by a word will change as he gains more experience of the world .Thus the use at seven months of “mama” as a greeting for his mother cannot be dismissed as a meaningless sound simply because he also uses it at other times for his father, his dog, or anything else he likes.Playful and meaningless imitation of what other people say continues after the child has begun to speak for himself, I doubt, however, whether anything is gained when parents take advantage of this ability in an attempt to teach new sounds. 68.Before children start speaking,________. A.they need equal amount of listening      B.they need different amounts of listening C.they are all eager to cooperate with the adults by obeying spoken instructions D.they can’t understand and obey the adult’s oral instructions 69.Children who start speaking late ________. A.may have problems with their listening B.probably do not hear enough language spoken around them C.usually pay close attention to what they hear D.often take a long time in learning to listen properly 70.A baby’s first noises are ________. A.an expression of his moods and feelings    B.an early form of language C.a sign that he means to tell you something D.an imitation of the speech of adults 71.The problem of deciding at what point a baby’s imitations can be considered as speech________. A.is important because words have different meanings for different people B.is one that should be properly understood because the meaning of words changes with age C.is not especially important because the changeover takes place gradually D.is one that should be completely ignored(忽略)because children’s use of words is often meaningless 72.The author implies________. A.parents can never hope to teach their children new sounds B.even after they have learnt to speak, children still enjoy imitating C.children no longer imitate people after they begin to speak D.children who are good at imitating learn new words more quickly 第二节(共3小题,每小题2分,满分6分) 阅读下面短文,简要回答问题,并将答案转写到答题卡上 A team from Paris High School in Texas won the past weekend's Ford/AAA Auto Skills Challenge. The goal of the yearly competition is to accurately repair a car that has been disabled on purpose: Responding to the call, "Gentlemen, start your engines, if you can" at 9:15 a.m., the teams ran to 50 cars with the same mechanical problems. They had 90 minutes to find and repair many "bugs" in the starting, electrical, lighting, braking, temperature control, and power systems. The team from Texas first drove their car across the finish line, winning the contest after judges determined that they had removed all of the bugs. Bradley J.Bolton and Aaron Clay were able to get their car started in less than 30 minutes. In feet, the pair from Texas spent months preparing for the competition with, their instructor. They walked away with $2,500 in scholarships and something interesting to add to their resumes(履历).With many regional competitions, Ford and AAA gave away a total of $6 million in prizes and scholarships to this year's competitors. "Aaron and Bradley proved today that they are America's best teen auto-repair team," Allan Stanley, manager of Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills, said."Their hard work and drive to be the top high school auto technicians are typical of every participant here. The auto industry must attract such talented young people to keep America's vehicles operating safely." 第四部分: 写作(共两节,满分35分)

第一节 填空(共10小题,每小题1分,满分10分) 阅读短文,根据所读内容在表中的空格处填上适当的单词或短语,每空不超过3个单词。 For many the idea of one day having your dream home is not buying a bigger home, but a home that you have built by yourself.A house that is unique and fit for your tastes and your lifestyle. It sounds great but where do you begin to design your dream home? Here is a quick guide that can help you make your dreams come true. The first step is to get an idea of what type of home you want. You can get inspiration from others.Drive around to neighborhoods that have the styles of homes that you like         and take pictures. You can also cut out pictures from magazines, newspapers, or print-out pictures you find on the Internet. The next step will be to make two lists of items for yourself. The first list will be those items or features that you feel your new home must have, such as granite (花岗岩 ) counter tops or a hot water heater. The second list will be those items or features that are on your wish list like a fireplace or slate (石板) floors. At this point you will probably have a good idea what your dream home will look like, so you will need to seek some professional help. You will need to hire an architect to put your ideas down on paper. You may need to interview a few different architects to find one that you are comfortable with.Make sure whomever you choose to make the final drawings has a full understanding of local building codes and zoning by-laws (地区议事程序).In any case your final plan will need to be approved by the city and a building permit must be obtained before any construction can begin. It is time to look for a contractor (承包人).Whichever way you do it, be sure you are comfortable with your contractor and you have gotten references from his past clients (客户).Remember the more homework you do in the beginning, the more enjoyable the process will be. Those in favour of buying private cars argue that waiting for buses wastes much time.Even when they manage to get onto the bus, crowdedness often makes them uncomfortable.Private cars make up for the above headaches, though.Besides, owning cars indicates the advancement of our country, and it also stimulates auto industry and therefore contributes to economic development. However, other people list some unfavorable effects of private cars. They often create traffic jams; they consume plenty of oil. What's more, they give off enormous waste gases, causing pollution and disease. In our view, to develop clean and hybrid fuels may be a good solution to air pollution, because it can reduce the emission(排放) of carbon dioxide. In addition, efficient and convenient public transportation systems can also discourage people from buying private cars.On the whole, awareness of environment protection needs the collective efforts from the government as well as the public.
